Look at this cute giftie Stephanie @ http://loftcreations.blogspot.com/ made all of us in the tea swap. She is always making the cutest things. I had to make me some tea before I sat down to post. Thank you so much Stephanie.

I had to sneak in another picture I had taken earlier of my gift I'll be sending soon. Almost done.

I know I haven't even listed all the fabric I have, in the shop, but look what I put together for a project. You know MODA is my middle name. I'm getting ready for spring with a lot of ideas floating around. Too many, I'm thinking I'm on overload.

Vacation, Economy, Quilt, Fabric Sale, Giveaway, SSCS, Angel Swap and Rambling

Vacation, Economy, Quilt, Fabric Sale, Giveaway, SSCS, Angel Swap and Rambling

Boy, I have a lot to talk about. First I'll talk about the good things, we are going on a little vacation, not very far. With gas prices, just far enough away to relax and get some family time and stitchen' in. We leave Friday and I'm trying to cook some things and freeze before we leave. I hope to post tomorrow a Mexican Casserole dish I make. It is so good and you can freeze it for a later date.

Another happy thought I wanted to post a picture of a quilt I had done and it hung in the shop for decorations at Christmas time. I am now cutting out another one to make for myself, due to a lady begging me to sale her that one. (could kick myself for doing it) It is one of the first patterns I had made. Now I'm working on some other patterns and hope to have them posted soon. So below is Mr. Santa.
Now if he doesn't get you in the Christmas mode, (not to decorate) but to start and finish some gifts, I don't know what will. He's looking at you and checking his list.

OK, here is a bad thought, good thought. ECONOMY!!! I don't like listening to the news anymore. I know it's not right of me to want to bury my head and have you wake me up when it's over, but that is the way I feel. After having a shop and struggling to keep it open, I moved on to better ways and one is online. So here comes the good news. I know as a quilter/seamstress I want fabric, patterns or you know the fix we have to have. I'm lowering (is that a word) the prices on my fabric and patterns. I hope to have all the fabric at $6.50 a yard, I mainly carry Moda and Alexander Henry at this time. I'm setting up shop as we speak and after the vacation will be taking pictures and putting all of it online (which should have taken place already) So look for all this to take place in about a week.

Another happy thought is having things cut out and ready to sew for my Angel Swap partner and my SSCS to take with me on our trip.

Now that I have rambled on and on I still want to remind everyone to sign up for the giveaway. If you don't wear aprons, maybe it could be a gift for you to give to the hostess. See post on September 26th for APRON GIVEAWAY!!!

Come on back for the recipe tomorrow.

A Crazy Quilt Post--"A little bit of everything"

A Crazy Quilt Post
"A little bit of everything"

My Mind Is Going 90 to Nothing!!

With my daughter's latest news (new grand baby) I can't seem to get it together. In a good way. This post is going to be a little bit of everything.

First I have to say, I love going to http://stitchinbythelake.blogspot.com/ (Marlene) to read her post and she almost post daily. Her stories she tells from menopause to grand kids and people in general keep me usually in stitches. She also does beautiful quilting. Well she had a post yesterday about "Would you change anything on you if you could", I made a comment and she told me I should post about it. So here goes.

I told her I would change my double chin, because I'm beginning to feel this. I know I need to lose weight, which might would help, but it is one of those things that is gene related. My Grandma and my Mom had a double chin so I guess I'm next. As Mom aged (and she was a very pretty lady) her chin got kinda loose. My daughter, which was very young at the time, was sitting by her and her little hand was just playing with Mom's chin. She then looked up and said "Granny your just like your cow's". Kid's say the darnest things...

Next subject-with the giveaway (that is 3 post below) which will be ending tomorrow, I just want to thank everyone for coming by and entering. I may have to draw a second prize so grand baby #2 can draw too. Oh my, now I will have to have 3 when the little one gets old enough to draw (next time). On the next giveaway (next month) I'm not going to put-you get your name in twice if you help spread the word and post about it. I really appreciate all of you doing that, but I really hope I don't make any mistakes about getting every one's name in 1 or 2 times. I will make a final tour of all the blogs tomorrow. It is a neat way to read new blogs... So just check back with me, I will have a giveaway once a month until Christmas.

Next subject-I worked on a little girls outfit I'm putting online and thought I would show a picture and tell you how I made the flower pin. The pictures does not show the details to well. I took two 1-1/2" width-X-WOF lengths and sewed wrong sides together with two rows of gathering stitches down the center. I then frayed the edges on both side and both pieces of fabric. Gathered as tight as it would go and rolled it in a circle. Hand stitched it and added pin in the center.

Now I'm off to the sewing room!!!

Giveaway for August!!!!

Time To Post My Giveaway
Getting Ready For Fall
Deadline August 28th

I'm late posting this because I got the great idea of making two, one to giveaway and one for the shop, www.calamityjanescottage.com . I might take better pictures tomorrow and post them. It has been raining here and the pictures came out a little foggy.

I love different purses for the season. This pattern is from Indygo Junction-The Crestwood and it turned out larger than I expected. There are two pockets on the inside and I used denim in the inside to give it some body. It has a pin on it for closure and I scrunched the fabric on the handles. I have the pattern if you are interested.

I will put your name in twice if you leave me a post and post about it on your blog. Deadline for entries will be August 28th and I will announce the winner before Labor Day weekend.

Good Luck to everyone.

Mind Wide Open Contest-Here is my entry!!!

Mind Wide Open Contest

I love Gail's contest at Mind Wide Open because it puts your thinking cap on. What can I do with the image she provides and a word of inspiration.

So here goes. First I thought about the book The Secret Garden. Then I thought of two friends meeting when they were young in this secret garden and growing into true friendship. I don't know if that makes since to some of you, but to be a true friend you have to grow and have a few punches, but still be there for one another. So this is what I came up with. I hope you like it. Go to http://www.mind-wideopen.blogspot.com/ and you will see all the great artwork people have come up with.

Welcome To The Secret Garden

Two Friends From Long Ago Would Walk The Paths Of This Garden

And As The Years Go By, The Weeds May Come & Go But The True Garden Will Always Grow

Just Before The Storm!!!

Today was a hot steamy day. I stayed outside and watched as the cement got poured for our workshop. Have you ever seen a cement truck with a neck like this. I wish my neck was long and skinny.... Oh well, back to the story. These young men worked really hard in this hot weather.

Do you see the guy closest to us with the belt on, he was working the truck from that control, amazing. I remember when my Dad and others would pull that concrete all over the place, you talk about a work out. Here are a few more pictures.

TaDah!!! Here it is all finished. What a mess in the yard... Why do buildings look so small with just the slab? It's going to be 30X50 building with a 20' covered front area. I'm so glad they got this poured today, because we are in the path for the tropical storm out in the Gulf.

Part 2

Now I thought I would show you a purse I had done, which I call it my mistake bag. When I taught sewing in my shop a lady had cut all her strips to small. A measurement that wasn't in the quilt pattern. So when she got to the class, she just threw them in the garbage. OH MY, I grabed them up and told her she could use them in another project and she said no they are just to small 1 1/2" strips. She insisted she did not want them and bought more fabric.

I wish I had taken a picture of the bag I made her out of the strips. I had it all made when she came to the next class and she decided then, you can use all your fabric for something.

This bag spread like hot cakes and everyone wanted to do them, so I started doing classes making them. I have pictures of my bag, I tried to put each persons personality in each bag I would make if they purchased them. Anyway, thought this would give you some inspiration.

Can you tell mine is so full with quilting and magazines it's about ready to bust. It has pockets all inside and a long straps for handles.

Projects-not completed!!!!

I came across some projects that I have all good intentions on finishing. Well....what is my problem. One thing, I did just find them and here Peg's challenge is almost over. Some I had from teaching quilt classes at the shop.

But I ask the question. Is anyone else like me. Do you start so many and put them aside? Am I the only one? There are a lot of us that joined the challenge. Maybe that's the answer to my question.

I am determined to finish things I've started. I've been doing some reading to help me with this, if I just finish the book.

Here are just some of them....

This is a 4th of July project and a picture frame with an old quilt in it that I'm doing handwork on.This is a purse in the works.... Cute Cowboys...

Christmas runner, "Jesus Is The Reason For The Season" only needs the handwork on the binding.... I guess I kinda had doubts on this one, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus being snowmen.

And last a baby quilt, needs quilting. I have to stop looking for stuff.

So cute it has the prayer embroidered with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.
