BOY, I just made it with my SSCS on it's way!!!

Boy, I just made it with my SSCS on it's way!!!

Has everyone waited till the last day like me. I work so much better under stress!!! I had things finished, just not in the mail. Why do I put things off. Just a little reminder if anyone has finished and mailed the SSCS gifts, just pop over to http://www.chookyblue.blogspot.com/ and let Miss Donna Elf know. Click on the picture above and it will bring you to her blog. I can't imagine having this to mark off and keep up with at this time of year. Thank you Donna again for having this swap. I hope my SSCS swapper (is that a word) likes what I'm sending. This is the first time I've entered. I'll post pictures after she opens it on Christmas.

I wanted to post another little giftie idea. I love travel pillows and I do these for the shop. Makes great gifts for little one's and adults to travel with. You can put all kind of sayings on them or names but I just wanted to show this one I've done for my show and I'll show some other ideas soon! Let me know if you all might like a tutorial on this.

I have some that say "Over the river and through the wood, to Grandfather's house we go" for traveling at the Holidays.
I only have 5 kits left that I showed in the last post. Thank you all that ordered them. They are on there way.

Sharon's Quilt - Santa Kit on Sale

Sharon's Quilt - Santa Kit on Sale
It was so nice to pop over to Sharon's blog - http://redgeraniumcottage.typepad.com/ - and see this quilt made up, because I haven't had time to make anything out of this fabric. I emailed her and asked if I could use her picture. If you know Sharon, she is always doing for others and a "HOOT" at that.

I cut all the panels I have and I have enough for 12 kits. Now I'm just putting 1/2 yard of each print (6) with this panel and you can make whatever you would like. (But we are going to find out what pattern Sharon used and let you know). It is all Moda and it comes to 3 yards and the panel for $26.00 plus $5.00 shipping in the US. I will have to get the postage for overseas. I'm going to list it in my shop under "Fabrics" and "Seasonal" www.calamityjanescottage.com so you can use the checkout.

Thank you again, Sharon.

Baby Burp Cloths Tutorial

Baby Burp Cloths

Cutting Fabric-Will make 2 Burp Cloths

Main Fabric-18" x WOF-You will then cut this fabric at the fold. You will then have two pieces that measure 18" x 22" if your fabric is 44" wide.

Border Fabric-10" x WOF-Cut 2 from this fabric to measure 10" x 18"

To place embroidery, I fold the main fabric in half. Selvage on one end and fold where it would measure 9" x 22" and crease down the middle. Embroidery-I line up the fold in the embroidery hoop positioning it so the design will be at the end without the selvage. The reason for this is on some fabrics, as the one I'm using, I do not finish the selvage end. Some fabrics you have to finish both ends.

Embroidery design by machine or hand. Now fold border piece to measure 5" x 18" and pin to the end of main piece and sew.

At this point I finish all edges.

Top stitch seam toward main fabric.

Fold in half with RST-the burp cloth will now measure 9" x 26" and sew 1/2" center seam.

Press seam open and turn. You will have a long tube. Opened on both ends.

I found this to be long enough to go over shoulder and fit comfortable.

Finish off with an ornament that you can sign and write the date on the back. Embroidery the name on the burp cloth and it makes a very special gift for the little one.

WOF-Width Of Fabric

RST-Right Sides Together

I'm so far behind!!! Ideas for gifts and Angel Swap

I'm so far BEHIND!!!

Ideas for Gifts and Angel Swap

I am really behind in all of my blogging and visiting, but I will come see you all soon. I have a show December 6Th and with all the sewing that needs to be done, I'm panicking now. November brings 3 birthdays and a visit out to West Texas, so I have to get in high gear.

First I want to show you a picture of my Angel Swap gifts from Pina Refat . Thank you so much and they are so special coming from you, all the way from Australia. This was a great swap since we all like to sew and that is what the swap was about. I received a pincushion, a needle holder (with beautiful stitchery on it) and a pretty bag. You know how us ladies like our bags. Thank you again Pina.

Now I want to show you one of the items I've been working on for the show. They are sew easy!!! Maybe it will give you some ideas for Christmas gifts. These are baby burp cloths. I will be posting a tutorial on this tomorrow, the pictures are taken so maybe tonight. I love making these and try to make them special since the "First Christmas" is so much fun with little ones. A little ornament tied on that you can date. (They will also be listed in the shop) Hope to post gift ideas now until Christmas.

We had a few Christmas's when we didn't have small children at the celebrations. It is so much fun to see Christmas through children's eyes. My Mom and Dad would have their great gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas with all the Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and yes even strangers sometimes. (That's a whole other story). At Christmas we would always have a cake and sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. The children would be so excited to blow out the candles and sing.

These fast little gifts are some of the things that I've worked on for the show, but I can't wait to sew some quilts or clothes. So stay tuned for some variety. I'll show the pillow cases next.

Here are some pictures from West Texas, it is so beautiful out west. I went into a great quilt shop and brought the camera, but I got the hint that they really didn't want any pictures taken. If you are ever in Kerrville I would say you need to stop by.

Fredericksburg, Texas

Fredericksburg, Texas
I'm off to Fredericksbury tomorrow to meet my husband, so I'll be taking lots of pictures. I love it out in West Texas. I need to do some catching up on post and visiting every one's blogs. I'll be back on Thursday to do show and tell.
I've been working on towels and pillow cases for the show and will be posting some pictures. I received my angel swap package and can't wait to show you the goodies, just haven't had time to take pictures between grandbaby's birthday and trying to finish up some sewing (which will be traveling with me).
I hope it's not to early for the Christmas music, but I just like listening to it so I will get busy. Another tutorial is coming too!!!
Ya come back,

Tinkerbell & Princess and "The Winners"

My Little Tinkerbell and Princess
&
"The Winners"
First I have to share a couple of the girls in the Halloween outfits. It's so funny how things change, when I was growing up we had to do with what we had. I will never forget the year my Mom put a deer skin around me and went outside and got a round steak bone the dog had chewed cleaned. Tied that around my neck and I had got the doll BamBam so she had me carry his cave club. I was a cave girl that year. The kids now would probably have a cow if they had to dress like that.

Here's the girls...

I hope they will always stay close.

The winners of the contest are Diane @ http://dianobe.blogspot.com/ for the apron and May Britt @ http://abyquilt.blogspot.com/ . I guess I better email them and let them know. Congratulations and thank you all for entering.
