Back to the sewing room to make Little Girls Dresses for the next show. I wanted to venture out from the dress that always sales to something a little different. It has been fun mixing and matching patterns and coming up with new items, even using a quilting ruler to add more detail. Love the vintage look for adults and think it really is cute on little girls for photo's.

I am getting to sew a couple of quilt blocks in between so hope to have a quilt finished to show soon.

Quilt Show in Beaumont, Texas

I have been bad again not posting. Not sure why I can't seem to sit down and post. I have pictures in my camera of our Guild's quilt show and will be posting them soon, having a booth I didn't get out as much as I wanted. Very talented ladies!!! Little Girl's Purse Tutorial

Little Girl's Purse Tutorial

Supplies Needed

2 Fat Quarter (enough for two purses) I should of used two different fat quarters so you could tell the right side of the purse from the wrong side. Sorry.

1 piece of batting 18" X 22"

2 pieces of binding measuring 2 1/4" X wof

1 Piece of ribbon 30" long for handle

Velcro

Large button of your choice

With 2 fat quarters sandwiched between batting I quilted the whole piece. It is easier to quilt a larger piece of fabric and you have two purses in no time. Quilting can be done anyway you choose, see mine below.

Now you are ready to cut two pieces measuring 13 1/2" X 20 1/2.

Take one piece of fabric and fold from the bottom up to 7 1/2", see mark below. Iron crease on bottom fold to mark fabric. This is the bottom of the purse where you folded it.

I took a saucer at this point to round off the top edge of the purse, you can use anything to make a curve.

Trim top edge of purse.

This is how it looks before sewing.

Cut binding 2 1/4" X wof.

Sew together ends as shown below. I put of piece of tape just to show you how to piece the binding together.

After sewn trim away edge.

Iron seam open.

Now press binding in half, long edges together. I love pressing on a towel.

The first seam to sew is attaching the binding to the edge of the purse that is straight. It measures 13 1/2" long. I sew a 3/8" seam with my quilting foot.

After attaching binding you trim away ends.

Fold over binding and pin down, if you use these measurements and fold it over the top edge it will be longer in the back and you will catch the seam when you sew the binding down on the right side of your purse. I sew in the seam and you cannot see it from the front.

This is how the inside binding of the purse will look.

Now attach binding all around the purse outer edge and curve. Go slow around the curve. Cut small slits around curve so it folds back easier. I don't trim my fabric away due to wanting the 3/8' seam, so the binding folds around it at the right measurement. Then fold back and sew on the right side of the purse in the seam.

Remember the crease you made with the iron folding the bottom up to 7 1/2", fold the bottom back up, pin and sew the sides of the purse edge.

You can use any width of ribbon, but mine was a little wide so I folded it in half and stitched it together.

Attach ribbon to purse on the inside where purse opens and sew on Velcro. I used what I had and I know tan does not go with these colors but gotta work with my supplies.

I embroidered "Be Mine" several times and cut out the circles for the big covered buttons.

Attach button and you are finished. I hope these instructions are understandable.

2 MONTHS, oh my!!! Wristlets anyone?

The Christmas Decor has gone up and come down and I haven't been on the blog with any updates, shame on me, and not even a Merry Christmas to everyone. Is it too late...? I was so caught up with family get together, shows and sewing I might have a little excuse.

The pictures above are some new little projects I've been working on. Thank you Geraldine for sitting down with me and showing me step by step. They are from Embroidery Garden
If you haven't been to their store and looked at the designs she has, you need to stop by. This design is all done in the hoop. I only have the 5 X 7 hoop, but they have it for the larger hoops. Zipper, quilting and assembly all done in hoop. Love it.

More Baby Gift Ideas

More baby bags to grab and go. I don't know why the neon orange didn't show up in the first photo. "I'm ready to go hunting" and "Ouch Pouch" are some that I've added. I put tissue, cold pack, band aids, hand sanitizer, and a couple of little dum dums to ease the pain. There is plenty of room to add more.

It has been way to long in-between post and catching up with everyone on my bloglist. With the busy season around the corner, I have to sew as much and fast as I can. Hope everyone is doing OK out there in blogland and can't wait to see what all you have been creating.

These little bags I'm making lets me sew and quilt (miss my quilting). They come with wipes and 2 diapers for the new mothers. Just right to grab and go.

Banana Nut Bread, Yumo!!!

Thought I would give you a great Banana Nut Bread recipe my husband loves. We're on a diet so we have to eat healthy. Banana's are healthy aren't they?

I came back from our sewing group Treasured Friends and put this in the oven. I would say I sewed a lot but I forgot my cord to my machine. Can you believe it. Too many projects going on in this head of mine. Leave for Canton next Wednesday and will post a picture of all the things I've been sewing on.

Banana Nut Bread

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 cup mashed ripe bananas

1/4 cup chopped nuts

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in mashed bananas, vanilla and mix well. Stir in nuts. Add Dry ingredients and stir in. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake at 350 degree for 40 minutes. Yield: 1 loaf.

Fun Stuff!

Last month at Canton, we had a lot of women that wanted boy items. What do you think, do they buy handmade boy clothes? I'm giving it a try. Onesies with little cowboys in mind. The pants have two leather pockets on the side of the legs, with comfortable waste for growing. Working on several of these just to see if they will sell.

Monkey with sock monkey pants, whoops, I'll take picture of it all together later.

Newborn onesie below with removable tutu. The giraffe is well liked at this time.

Bibs are being quilted and it looks like a lot of baby items going on this month. I can't keep posting the little dresses, but maybe some ideas for a baby shower you might have to attend for someone special arriving soon.

Canton was so HOT! Pictures of booth

We had temperatures from 105 to 108 this weekend for the show. Our summer has been extra hot this year and we are hoping it will be cooler for the September show. Our booth looks full, but just wait and see it for the Holiday's. Can't wait for the busy season to arrive. Oh boy, I better get busy!

If you need your room decorated for the new arrival please stop by Rocking Horse Bedding. All bedding, pillows, blankets, etc. are handmade and they will take special orders. Sheree and Laura can make your room so special.

The artwork is done by Nancy at Kidsart by Boecker, she does beautiful watercolor paintings for children rooms and special orders of your best friend (pets) by just sending her a photo. I will get better photo's next time.

Lots of new items being sewn, so I'll be popping in to show you. Need some opinions on what might would sell.

Dresses, Baby Burp Cloths, Bags, Pillows and Towels

I've been sewing, but it hasn't been any quilting items so I haven't posted much. I can show burp cloths, towels, dresses, pillows and bags, but not sure everyone wants to see that sort of sewing. I added ruffles to the back of some of the dresses.

On the other hand I lost my camera memory stick that the computer will only read. So off today to buy another one, couldn't post anything without some kind of pictures. Sat down and there it was (my other one). Isn't that how it is when you can't find something.

I should take pictures of my sewing room and let ya have a big laugh. Been cracking the whip, so you can imagine the mess...

Setting up at Canton, Texas next month!

Sneak Peek of Giveaway and if I see another TOMATOE!!!

If you haven't noticed, I didn't get any sewing done while watching my grand babies at the lake. So my giveaway is a little late, but good news is you can still enter it in the post below. Sneak peek above and there will be another surprise to go with it.

Below is what I've been doing since we got back from the lake. Vegetables everywhere, canned tomatoes, (rotel, Italian style, and stewed), bread and butter pickles, hot peppers for my stuffed roast I make, recipe here, bread and butter peppers (just made this one up) and string beans. I don't know how the women from the pioneer era did all the chores, canning, washing clothes on a rub board, homemade bread, sewing and mending, large families, etc...I just want to crawl into my little sewing room for a day, but I need to be thankful for all the fresh veggies.

And look what's on the counter, my husband went outside and picked this evening, boy was I HAPPY ;(

This has been on my To Do List

I've had this marked for awhile to make and it seems when we meet on Thursday for our sew-in, I stare at all that needs to be sewn and cannot make my mind up on what to take. My husband said the other morning, "I thought you were going to your sewing group," which took me forever to decide what to sew on. Well not anymore. I'm cutting out the quilt on top right hand side of the magazine and this is what I'm sewing on every Thursday till it's complete. The date on the magazine is 1999. We'll see how long this last, (stay focus, stay focus). It is all templates and batiks. I've had these quite awhile and now the first block is done (had to see about sewing circles) and many more cut out. Yeah!!! The block is just sitting on the other fat quarters.

The rest of my time is spent putting up vegetables from the garden, watching grand babies and sewing for the trade-days weekend coming up in a week.

104 degrees yesterday, so hoping everyone is staying cool.

We stayed longer and had a blast!

We had the best time in St. Augustine, Florida, but so glad to be home. The picture above was an old quilt on a bed in one of the museums we visited. Being the oldest town in the United States we had a lot of exploring to do.

On our trolley ride we passed some beautiful Churches.

We went on a ghost tour at night and had some fun listening to old stories being told, of course I had to snap some pictures to see if they would show up.

One of the houses that had a wonderful story being told by these two. He told her she was frugal buying the iron toaster she was showing him.

Annie Oakley and adding to my stash

I went to our quilt shop close by and just wanted to look around, look what it did, a new machine to take with me to classes and sewing adventures. I have a big Bernina and was considering a feather weight, they are so cute. But I needed a little more than just straight stitch and I love to move my needle over and the blanket stitch is a must and not to mention all the feet on my big one fits this one and that includes walking foot. I guess I don't have to say anymore, convinced myself and Little Annie Oakley came home with me.

Then I started shopping for some fabric to add to my stash for projects in mind and just to add for my retirement years. My husband says "I must think I'm going to live for a long time." Lord I hope so or I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do when the better half gets up there to see me."

I need bigger Hot Pads, Thank you Carrie and Sewing Group

I had some hot pads I needed to make to add to a wedding gift and her kitchen color is purple. When I say "I need to make some bigger, they might have to be used for this body." Can you believe both of our units quit cooling at the same time. Upstairs and downstairs. It was 90 degrees here the other day. I think this is why I haven't posted to hot for the computer.

Now look how thoughtful Carrie P was. She won my last giveaway and sent a thank you gift that I love. Look at the bag she did, a fat quarter and I'm so sorry Carrie but the candy melted. LOL It was good anyway after putting it in the fridge for a little while.

I was able to attend our sewing group on Thursday and took some photo's of the quilts the ladies produced. So much talent and fun goes on for just a few hours of complete enjoyment.

I've been away, but just had to bring my machines

We took another little week vacation and it's only about a hour away from our house. Short but sweet. My husband and son fished in the McDonald's fishing tournament, with no luck, but he did get some golf in. We had a condo looking over the golf course so I got to snap a picture of him on the hole near by and then the camera died. I had plans on showing you what I had made. One Easter dress down (check), one order (check) and the most fun was starting my log cabin for me. Yea! Can't wait to get this one finished.

We just got home today, so I'm charging the battery and will be back with some photo's after one more Easter dress and an apron order is finished.

Hope you get to spend this weekend with the one's you love and have a Happy Easter. Surprise just might be hopping your way.

Tooth Fairy Pillow Tutorial

Are you ready for a long tutorial. I try to write my tutorials for someone who hasn't sewn much and explaining it in detail. I hope everyone understand this tutorial and has as much fun sewing it as I like making them. Pillowcases for the little travel pillow is another way I make my tooth fairy pillows, but I had to go the long route and add a zipper at one end and have sides to kind of square it off. So here goes.

This is one of the travel pillows you can pick up at Walmart or even Walgreen's have some but they are little bit smaller. This one measures 14"X20".

Our Goodwill has $0.50 day on Sunday and Monday, so I have several pair of jeans bought and ready to use. I don't waste any of the jeans the rest is for skirts, aprons, etc. Bottomless jeans, cut pockets away, be sure to leave enough to trim away and turn back. Picture of pocket trimmed around and then folded back and ready to sew on pillow. Closer view of the back ironed, but my top edge did not show up. This is turned under, but not all the way to the edge of the pocket due to attaching it to the pillow. You want to be able to still slip your hand in-between the pocket and the jeans. Picture later on sewing it the pillow. I didn't take picture of all the cut out pieces but you will need-

1 piece of main fabric (red cowboy print) 12" x 21"

Several other pieces of the main fabric in a variety of sizes this is for the crazy quilt pillow side

Side pieces are 3" x 21" (brown check)

1 red check strip 3" x WOF (crazy quilt side)

1 red check strip 5" x WOF (crazy quilt side)

Muslin pieces

12" x 21"

17" x 21"

Zipper 9"

This is a crazy quilt pillow front so understand you can use any scraps of any size, I'm just showing my technique on this pillow top to get the idea. Are you still with me?

With this in mind here are some of the stitching I did for the front of this pillow. I first squared off my embroidery design. You can applique an initial or name, hand embroidery a design or machine embroidery. I'm for fast production. I really can't give you an answer why I square this up because I cut all angles around it.

Position your design on your muslin piece measuring 12" x 21" anywhere you want it.

I work clockwise and I'm starting with the top edge. Lay a piece of fabric, it does not mater what you pick on top of your embroidery piece. Right sides together. You want to make sure that the piece you are sewing is going to be enough to cover the area you want. You can always add another piece if it ends up short. This is very easy to do. Sew through all three pieces just across the edge of the embroidery piece and stop. Turn fabric toward the foundation piece and press. Pressing is your best tool. This was the upper corner so I turned the foundation piece over and trimmed away the excess fabric. Make sure you do not cut your foundation, you want it to stay at 12" X 21". x Next is the side piece, I placed my 5" red check strip along the embroidery piece at an angle just to give a little bit more crazy. Pin through all layers and your ready to sew. x Press again. xx x xx Cut away the bottom of the red check at the same angle of the embroidery design. x x Fold muslin piece and red check back very important and trim the embroidery piece to the seam, this will take away some bulk. x Ready for the next piece, you will lay it and sew the same way as the above step, then trim. I drew a line on this piece to give me the correct angle (cutting only the main fabric). If you notice I did angle the red 5" strip and trimmed away the side to make it wider at the bottom and narrow at the top. But make it a straight angle and always make sure your muslin is turned back away so you don't cut it. x

I'm adding a large cut of main fabric so I can get some of the design on the front of the pillow. Whoops, see the edge not enough fabric. I'll just add a little strip to the fabric then sew it on. x

This is showing after the piece is sewn down onto the foundation (see the little strip I added). It is turned over and trimmed away to match your foundation piece of muslin.

Now you are ready for the back and side sections.

Place main fabric 3" from top of foundation piece measuring 17" x 21". Place brown check strip measuring 3" x 21" on top right sides together and sew through all 3 pieces 1/4". Do this on the other side seam also. x

Sew around all the edges of your pillow, this will hold your crazy quilting and side edges to the foundation pieces.

Now you are ready for the zipper which I hope I can explain due to having the side seams on the back foundation. Does this make since. Why didn't a do a pillowcase tutorial for the tooth fairy pillow. LOL

Oh my, I forgot to take a picture of me sewing the pocket down. Can you see I just went around it making sure I didn't catch the top of the pocket when I sewed the top edge that was turned back. This will let the special little one be able to put the tooth inside and the tooth fairy to leave the treasures.

I placed my zipper on top just to see where I needed to sew my seam.

You are going to match the two pieces of main pillow right sides together and make a seam just through the main fabric leaving the sides not stitched. I did not go all the way to the edge, just enough for my zipper and this is a longer stitch (basting stitch) because you will remove this after the zipper is sewn in. Can you see the red thread, this is my seam.

Turn over and press seam open, you will place your zipper with wrong side facing you and laying on top of the seam. Sew along the edges of the zipper. Then you will rip out basting stitch.

Open up the zipper, very important. Looks funny with the sides only attached to the back, but it will work out. x

Turn right sides together and sew remaining side seams, 1/4".

Fold pillow where the zipper is lined up together and the two sides seams are matching up together. I should of pressed it before I took this picture.

You will sew the remaining top edge. Is this making since. x

Now for the bottom edge you can tell better how to line it up in this photo. Almost done...

Turn the pillow through the zipper opening and stuff with pillow. I did push my corners in to make it square with the side seams and tacked down on the outside. Like a box purse. I forgot to take pictures of this step and sold the pillow this weekend. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and understand it.

I'm always working on several projects at once, which I thought was something that took some talent. But I find myself not getting as much done as I should and come to find out it really isn't talent. I came across an article here that really opened my eyes. I have so many projects, including cooking meals, cleaning, sewing, computer work, husband, etc. You all know what us women go through and I don't even have little ones to take care of at this ripe age. So here is a little article that was interesting to me and I wanted to share it. Maybe if I read this every morning it might sink in and work. How do you lock the door, stay put, work like a real job from your home? If you have good hints, please pass them on, could use all the help from blogland.

A Tree Fully Dressed and A Very Thoughtful PIF

Can you see, I have my tree dressed for the Spring weather. Love to take pictures outside and these are some of the dresses ready to go for the next show and etsy. Tooth Fairy pillows are in line next. Wonder how I can take a picture of them in the tree. I'll show you how I make some of the pillows soon.

Now look at what Linda @ http://all-stitched-up.blogspot.com/ sent me for a PIF gift. I forgot all about the PIF and it was such a great surprise to find in the mail yesterday. Thank you so much Linda and so glad you are back sewing away. She will be having surgery on her shoulder so we need to keep her in our prayers for a speedy recovery.

I hope someone could use a "Little Spring Peeping From The Snow", that's what I thought about when making this purse. The black with white dots and then "Boom", the Spring colors. The purse has a detachable flower that you can clip to your outfit or hair. I know Spring is on it's way to you that have had such a long Winter. Quilts I've been working on for show next weekend

I got my quilts back from Geraldine, (fantastic quilter), she does such nice work and fast. Speed is all I'm about right now due to shows every month. If you click on the quilts you can see the quilting, I heart the honey buns she puts on the children quilts that I bring her way.

The top quilt and the bottom quilt are with the same block I showed ya a few post down. Different fabric, borders and turned a different direction just changes it up. This block works up so fast and in my stash of scraps I have 5" squares cuts, 1 1/2" and 3 1/2" strips, so it will be easy to put these together.

I haven't forgot about the Spring Giveaway, working on it today. Maybe, pictures tomorrow and how you can enter to win. Not any promises, but just a big maybe.

Measurements for "One Charm Pack Quilt"

This was my first time to even open my EQ6, I have had it for awhile and now they have come out with EQ7, boy am I behind. I hope this is clear on this easy quilt. The measurements below are with the seam allowance. Charm square is in the middle and a total of 25 blocks made to make a quilt measuring 48 1/2" X 48 1/2. Below are the measurements to cut your block out, the measurement in the blue square is your charm pack square 5" X 5". All I did for the outside border is cut the remaining charm pack squares in half and sew the 2 1/2" X 5" together making one long border piece to sew around the quilt. If you have any questions just email me. My EQ6 says the light fabric requirement is - 1 & 7/8 Yards. I'm sorry to say I did not measure my fabric before I started cutting my strips. Maybe I need to make another one to be able to tell you for sure. 3 1/2" X WOF AND 1 1/2" X WOF are the strips you need to cut from light fabric.

What's under your needle?

Today I thought I would show some of the projects I worked on while we were on our very short (too short) trip. The baby quilt above came from the new "Quilts and More" magazine, that I just happen to love, but I did change it just a little. The owl fabric was in my stash so it needed to be put to good use. When I saw the cover quilt designed by Cori Derksen and Myra Harder of Blue Meadow Designs (great Blog), I knew what had to be made with this fabric. The only thing I did was draw me an owl that matched the fabric. I'm always changing something. I will show pictures of it completed as soon as it is quilted.

This magazine also had the neatest headbands made by Sandi Henderson, her website is sandihendersondesign.com another website you need to visit. The headbands are so fast and I have plans to make all kinds of creativeness to attach to these.

Now the quilt below is made with one charm pack, just one, and white fabric that I also had in my stash. It will look alot better in a picture when it's quilted and I'll give you the measurements to make it. Another fast project.

Took a little trip

My husband works shift work, so every 4 weeks he has a week off and we decided at the last minute to go to the lake that isn't far from our house. Sometimes last minute trips are the best. This is the view sitting on the front porch of our cabin.

This is the little porch, great for hand sewing.

And look what I couldn't leave behind. While hubby fished I enjoyed the view and had the best time. Lots of sewing and fresh air.

Now this is what we came after, some fresh fish. I did catch two of them and we ended up with more than what is in the picture. All cleaned and in the freezer for a family fish fry or a good Cajun Coubion.

Quick Post

Remember this, I got it back from Geraldine (my quilter) who did such a great job. I wanted the echoing around the applique and honey buns on the rest. It turned out great. I sold it this last weekend and had to finish putting the binding on it so I could get it in the mail today. Love those little birds. Have 6 little dresses ordered and they need to be finished by Friday so just a quick post and I'll be back this weekend.

Our grandbabies were over and I told my daughter it looked like our #3 grandbaby could stand on a table and would fit under PaPaw's horns on the wall just right. Thought I would share a picture of her. She's just a-laughing because we are and she's not sure why.

Happy Valentine and Some Inspiration!

Doesn't this couple look like they are young and so in love. I love my better half more and more each day but I sure wish I looked like I did 37 years ago. I hope all of you are having a great Valentine and are able to spend it with the one you love.

I had a show this weekend (which was really great) but it was really cold at night so I brought magazines to look at while I was under the covers and thought I would share some inspiration of the traditional quilting. Love the old quilts and yet I like the modern too. I have to say my house would be the traditional, but I love to make quilts for the babies with the modern flair. What do you like to look at for inspiration?

It's COLD even in Texas!

It was 23 degrees last night and stayed freezing almost all day, so look who got to come in and stay by the fire. She doesn't look to excited, but believe me she's not moving. They are even predicting snow and sleet starting Thursday evening. Gypsy has never been house trained and she either looks at you with sad eyes or stands by the door when she wants to go out. Such a good dog. I hope you are all staying warm. Our group of ladies that sews on Thursday had to cancel, so you know it's COLD!
Living in Texas we don't know how to deal with the cold weather, now heat, that's something different.

Update on Market Bag

Well, I have all the pieces ready to go. One side quilted the other with lots of pockets, now I just need to sew everything down and put it together. This bag will be able to hold your grocery's for a quick run-in. I hate to get the plastic bags so I always try to have a bag in the car.

What's on the Cutting Table...

If you have followed my blog you probably know that I really jump into projects not knowing what is going to come out of it. The baby quilt below was done just by putting blocks together and making them fit in measurements. Love this, the challenge is something I enjoy.

So on my next adventure I wanted to add a large Market Bag to the shop. This is how it is starting and I'll post pictures as the project goes. 2 1/2" inch strip are always handy to have. Picked out some colors that makes me happy and away we go.

Not much sewn today after Dr's. appointment

I've been sick since Saturday and I have to make myself go to the Dr., so when I do hubby knows I don't feel well. Ear and sinus infection, fever, head feels like a drum that is being beat on. Ulk!!! Thank goodness my Dr. believes in shots, I always say you get better faster with a good old' stick. So this is all I've done, letting the machine do the sewing today. Hope to show them fisished tomorrow.

Thinking maybe some fabric for the next Holiday coming up for a little giveaway. Drawing will be held the first of Feb., in time to get to the winner, I hope. Pictures coming soon, so stay turned.

I can't believe I haven't talk to ya since LAST YEAR!!!

If you are on a diet, don't look at the above pictures, well I should of wrote this above the pictures. I've been in the kitchen this morning, cooking some of my husbands favorites. Nothing like a good gumbo, rising rolls and potato salad.

I can't believe I haven't talked to ya since last year so this might be a little long. I was watching Julie & Julia, one of my favorite shows and I want tell you how many times I've watched it. Maybe it's a favorite because I see myself in Julie as of never finishing things she has started. Oh, I finish some projects but it takes a lot to accomplish this. Wanting to move on the the next project or my mind always racing "What can I do next"... What am I getting at? I need to take pictures of whatever is on the cutting table or the sewing machine, finished or not, just to post something. Is there anyone else out there like this? List don't help, I just grab a piece of paper and make a new one. Wasting time is not an option, work has to get done...So below are some pictures and they are actually finished, but more are cut out to update my shop.

Baby quilts, crochet items, suitcases revamped, recycled trash to treasures and a few recipes thrown in for comfort, this is what I can post often, we'll see what happens. I miss blogging, so it might not be completed but trying to write some kind of news and visiting others often. Giveaway coming soon!

Remembering Christmas Past and my 3 Angels

My grand babies stayed with us the other night and I did something that brought back memories of long ago. They had so much energy, (might have been the sweets Mimi made), we had to do something to get them tired. So remembering Christmas Eve long ago when I was young, it was always busy for Mom and Dad. They had all the family over to our house and the kitchen was like a restaurant with all the menu items being prepared at once. I have to say Mom had control on my brother and me, but on Christmas Eve we just couldn't hold it all in. My Mom started putting on our coats and not say a word of where we were going and back in those days to go anywhere was a treat. Well my brother and I were so excited and couldn't wait to be on our adventure. She opened the door and said, "OK, start running down to Grandma's and Grandpa's, turn around and come back home", which they lived at the end of our street. I just remember this was one Christmas in Texas it was really cold and we just didn't understand this task and said, "Why"? I don't think she ever gave us an answer, so we took off and laughed all the way. Mom stood at the door and she must of called Grandma, because she was at her front door and waved at us as we turned around and ran back home. Some good energy used and I guess we calmed down a little. Well my 3 angels was bouncing off the walls so we went outside and I showed them a running path around our oak trees and back to me. Needless to say they laughed all the way, even the little one. Miss and love you Mom and Dad, now I understand.

Calamity Jane's New Adventure!

We have Winnie Trade Days that is not for from my house and it is open the second Weekend or I should say the second Monday's weekend of every month. This little building became available and I decided to jump in and give it a whirl. Oh man, have I done the correct thing, I just keep asking God to guide me. These are some pictures of before and after and hope to feel it even fuller next month.

Now for a few after shots. This is my teacup tree that I add utensils, hankies and see the old hat at the top. Great conversation piece but I hope the customers know the the items are for sale.

The pictures above are of the front porch, fabric, little dresses I sale, towels and pillowcases. Sewing and getting ready for Christmas.

Vacation starts tomorrow!!!

Mr. Calamity and I are heading off for a little R & R starting tomorrow. Not for, but we'll have a condo in the woods and fishing and golf close by for the better half and lots of sewing and shopping for me. Can't wait. Trade Day's Show

The booth had a mixture of goodies for the creative customer and the ones that enjoyed items already made.My daughter has started making bows for little ones. So excited she has become excited about crafting. She has made them for the grandbabies and I told her she could sell them.

Geraldine brought some beautiful quilts to purchase.

This was the first time setting up at this show and quilters were delighted.

2 Days Late, but we have a Winner!!!

I bet ya thought I just forgot about this giveaway. I really didn't, after getting home from our bee get together, I came home to about 35 pounds of shrimp I had to put up. Giveaway on Wednesday and Sock Monkey Quilt

Quilt Retreat Photos

We had such a blast at our retreat with guild members. Putting women together with the same hobbies always turns out to be a good time. The first two pictures I'm sure you'll get a laugh. Ethel made a dirty clothes bag for her laundry. Isn't this the cutest thing. She also taught a lot of the girls quilt as you go at the retreat. So much talent in a little package.

Another week of unexpected events, be ready for heavy picture post!!!

Hi everyone, another week of unexpected events, but I finally made it to pick up my Cd's with all the pictures I've been behind in showing. Where do I start, Bonnie Hunter is a good place to start (see her excitement in the top picture). We introduced her to boudain from the Southeast Texas area, I think she really enjoyed it. Below are some of her quilts she showed us, so many and each one was beautiful as the next. If you haven't been to Bonnie's site, you need to take a visit. She has so much inspiration in her designs and work to make from men's shirts and clothing. Thank you, Bonnie for such a great meeting.

Then some inspirations from the ladies in our Bee and a retreat I went on. So many pictures to show, these will have to wait till the next post, so sit back and enjoy, I know it will make you want to get in your sewing room and sew away.

She even found in her collection of magazines an article about our quilt bee, just a feeeewww years ago. I'm not sure if I was born then. LOL...

What have I been doing???? Follower Giveaway!!!!

I can't believe it's been this long and I've been so busy the time has just flown by. The pictures that I've taken have been on a new photo SD that was 8GB and I could not get them loaded on my computer, so off I went to get them on a CD to download them.

Some news that I need to post about. We had another Guild meeting since the last post with a wonderful guest speaker, Bonnie Hunter, can you believe it. Can't wait to show you all the excitement that took place and I got to take not one but two classes from her. Bee pictures to show all the projects the girls have been making. For me a few quilts finished, little girl dresses and a mat for the grand baby starting school.

Let's see, a few things that have kept me away from the computer, brothers been sick, grand baby had surgery, siding on our house has finally been replaced from hurricane damages, house washed, keeping the grand baby's a few days a week, birthdays, anniversary and just everyday life. Boy I wished I had kept notes on everything, I could of had posts for a year. So I think it is time for a giveaway to celebrate returning and updating my shop, etsy and blogging. Don't you think? Buzzzy, Guild meeting and class with Kim Diehl, Tooth Fairy Pillow

Lots of pictures coming your way. First to show what I've been working on for a birthday girl this weekend. I have another project in the works for school and hope to finish it before this weekend. I make my tooth fairy pillows as a pillowcase that you can change out and made to fit one of the travel pillows. Love to do this so they can change the case out and take it with them in the car.

Kim Diehl is one of my favorite designers of quilts. I have all her books and here she is at our guild meeting and even classes. You talk about a happy camper. I couldn't wait. I will post more pictures of this adventure soon. The quilt in the picture above Kim is the one her first class was on. Her technique on applique's makes it fun and easy to temp this.

Potholder Tutorial

If you see the lady at the top, on my blog that means I'm having a surprise giveaway. I just love having a giveaway like this. You just never know. All I'm going to ask her if she wants it handmade or something she can put her talent into and it will be on her way. I'll show pictures once she tells me. I appreciate those that follow and comment even though I haven't been able to post much lately.

The table topper above is from scraps I had from my apron days. Love this coffee print and polka-dots is another favorite. So put a little embroidery with them and this is what I came up with. Hope to list it in my etsy shop soon.

The tutorial is being made for the potholders and will be posted when Colleen gets back with me.

I'm sorry for the size of the pictures above, I forgot my camera and another lady took pictures and sent them to me. This is at our Treasured Friends meeting. I couldn't enlarge them at all without getting them blurred. Beautiful quilts to share just wish they were bigger. Thank-you Ethel for taking the pictures.

"New Update"--So good to be Home, but I've had a blast!!!

Update-" This is an update added to my post, I love the magazine American Patchwork & Quilting by Better Homes and Gardens and needing a fast quilt to be finished within a month and going on vacation it had to be something quick and easy. My new magazine arrived and I saw this one. Grabbed 18 fat quarters off the shelf and adjusted the border and only 3 squares across and 3 down. It really turned out to be a big quilt."

Hi everyone, I've missed all of you and can't wait to catch up on all the excitement out in blog land. We got back from our vacation and then I headed out to a quilt retreat with good friends. I'll post pictures soon of all the sewing that was done. It does a body good to have laughter and sewing all in one place.

The picture at the very top is a quilt I made that had to be finished for this weekend. It is for a raffle for someone very sick and I hope it will bring in funds needed for him and his family.

The pictures below are from our vacation and the retreat I went to. I'll give out all the information in my next post, the ladies that run this one are so nice and talk about good food...

Quick Post-Bag For Florida-Calamity Kim's Giveaway!!!

I finished up my bag to take with me to Florida. Thought the fabric fit right in. Love to put braided handles on a bag, they stay on your shoulder really well. I've had this fabric for years, another stash buster. Yea!!! A little sun glass holder and small bag to fit inside, I try to stay organized on a trip. I'll be back in a week and maybe a little surprise, you just never know.

Apron made for special order-Tutorial when I get back from vacation on a potholder

It all started with a lady ordering my one of a kind aprons. I never know what I'm going to end up with when they are finished. Remember these blocks we did a quilt along with 2 1/2" strips and I had some left over. If you can see in the picture above I used them in the apron, the front block is pleated and the side blocks are gathered with big pockets covering them almost. Added a scalloped border, loop for towel and a button for the potholder. I guess this is a post of using up left over blocks you might have.

The towel is with a vintage towel and an image of an old pattern stitched to it, gathered at the top with a button added to keep it from falling out of the loop.

Told ya I can't get enough potholders made. This one is from a block cut up and sewed back together like a crazy quilt.

Potholders I Sent Rebecka

Well I sent off my potholders without taking a picture before I packaged them up. Sometimes I just don't think my head is attached, so I borrowed Rebecka's picture. She had taken a photo of her dining room when we were trying to decide colors for one another and can you believe we have the same antique table, mine is closed up in my breakfast area and hers is open. She had her first tulip on her table so I put it on the recipe card, it had the most beautiful colors in it.

We don't leave until Friday or Saturday this week for our vacation, just couldn't resist the pictures below.

Getting ready for vacation...

Guess where me and my honey are going in a week. Florida and I can't wait. I just know he'll carry me like this to the room every night, LOL,
and he will have to fight off all the good looking men trying to get my attention.

I'll take lots of pictures.

Not sure if I'll put on a bathing suit, it will probably be longer than these ladies have on,

but if I do, I would probably win first place from the beach patrol.

I hope to be back and show photo's of a bag I have planned and my quilt top finished before we leave. Garage Sale tomorrow and Saturday, so glad when that's finished and our quilting group didn't have much to take pictures of. We did finish a quilt for the Church and darn I didn't take a picture of it.

Be looking for a giveaway soon, Kaaren had a great idea to give to her followers. Ummm! I like sneaky one's every once in awhile.

What's on the cutting table....

Oh my, I'm just thinking of all the potholders I can make now and I have a charity quilt to finish, a label to embroidery and about a gazillion quilts to be quilted. What am I thinking. They are fast and fun--use scraps--on top of my list for a fast gift (that's why they are so much fun). The picture above has a potholder with a large eyelet and a hot pad with a Texas theme. Bluebonnets and a little ranch scene with an oil well on it. I think everyone thinks us Texans all have oil wells and a longhorn. Wish I was so lucky.

Beautiful Potholders Arrived and Just A Few Pictures

I have to say I love these potholders. Rebecka @ http://rebecka-rasmataz.blogspot.com/ sews beautifully and just click on the picture to view the quilting on them, hope you can see all the work she put into each one. The recipe she sent is for a coffee cake that will be cooked soon. A few more pounds added, but it sure does look worth it.

I still can't show you the potholders sent her way, because I know she hasn't received them. Rebecka had my name once before on a purse swap and to this day it still travels with me with my sewing projects tucked inside and I finally get to make her something, so exciting. When I got into this swap, I took a look at my potholders (think they might of been given to me for wedding gifts 35 years ago), you wouldn't believe the way they look. Here the sewing machine runs all the time and have never made any potholders. Now I'm hooked. What a great gift to give a special friend with a favorite recipe.

I haven't been doing a great job with taking pictures at our sewing bee meetings. Here are two pictures of some very talented ladies quilt tops they finished last Thursday. All I can say, if you don't belong to a group of ladies getting together, sewing and having lots of laughter, you just don't know what your missing.

Short Post-What's On the Cutting Table

Spring is a busy time, with the garden, sewing and I guess just life. Oh, but that's OK because I just gotta stay busy. The sewing room has been buzzing with items for shows coming up in the fall and winter months, birthdays and orders. If you plan on doing any shows in the fall season, the Holiday's will be upon us before we know it. Have two aprons to get done today so I thought just a fast post. Maybe I'll get back and show pictures of them before they go out in the mail. Do you jump from project to project? Maybe if I just stayed with one... But this seems to work for me because there are all these projects that have to be finished at the last minute and I'm a last minute girl. The above picture are items piled up on my small cutting table downstairs, lets see, we see a charity quilt not due till June, embroidered towel below, pillow for daughters anniversary end of this week and using up the stash so I made up this log cabin kinda block. I can give the measurements if any are interested.

One last picture, don't you wish you could eat like this. LOL

Getting ready for #3's First Birthday!!!

I've been busy making Tutu's for grand baby #3. She will be one soon and her party is this weekend. I have been able to quilt a little, but nothing finished to show. A charity quilt and a lap quilt for the church are in the makings and will soon show pictures. But, you know who comes first. Tutu's and onesie's are on the top of the list. I'll take pictures at the party to show.

I know the picture is taken in an odd place but I needed to show Rebecka my kitchen colors. I think I can just say almost every color in the book. We are in a potholder exchange that Malka put together. Better get busy!

Liberated (I think) and Bee Meeting

Remember Bonnie's Maverick Stars, well I did a little quilt liberation (is that what you call this?). Scrappy and roosters going in all directions for a table topper. Need to get busy quilting this one to show at our guild meeting next week.

Small Easter Baskets And The Fair

Scrappy, Making something from almost nothing!!!

Today I wanted to make something from scratch, literally!!! I guess I could call this my "Little Chicken Scratch Clutch".

I had little bitty pieces I cut off from making the stars so in a container they went. Such bright colors, just couldn't discard them. So hear are some of the supplies used in making the clutch.

If you have netting you can put your fabric in-between two layers and stipple away. I added a little ribbon yarn that kinda matched the colors. Then I made my own trim by folding the ribbon yarn back and forth at the top of a piece of fabric and crochet a flower. I really have a problem of throwing away fabric...

I'm working on the quilt from class and jelly roll block!!!

Remember the class I took last weekend, well, I'm working on the applique around the quilt but changed the design up a little. I don't know why but I usually change up something. Still need to add the flowers all the way around the quilt. I've had the Moda brushed cotton for awhile and plenty more to work with for future projects. Really like this look. I'm beginning to like modern, primitive, traditional, you name it.

Also worked on the second Jelly Roll block finally. I can't wait to finish this one for my sewing room.

This post is going to be picture heavy, it starts with our guild meeting on Thursday and then I took a class with our guest speaker Cheri Saffiote-Payne. Her website is http://www.quiltsbycheri.com/index.html and if you haven't visited or seen her patterns, she has the special primitive look and teaches you to be free when quilting. Love this style. The above quilt "Blackbird Song" is the class I took on Saturday.

A Story about finding something to be thankful for and learning lessons!

I don’t write to many stories because my writing just is not up to par. Like the other day my son was looking over my shoulder when I was writing a post and started laughing and said “You got to be kidding me” I wrote (you are to have) when it should have been (you ought to have). Spell check just doesn’t catch those kinds of mistakes. Well anyway, if ya are up to a story, not related to sewing, here goes.

Many years ago, when my children were about 5 and 7, I was in a head on collision. Now, the 1st thankful is I’m glad I’m here to write this. The other driver said she just didn’t see me. 2nd thankful is she didn’t get hurt. I was taken to a local hospital because I couldn't put weight on my leg when they asked if I could get out of the car and I was having trouble breathing. As I am waiting at the hospital they are asking all these questions and I am still telling them, I’m having a hard time breathing and my leg hurts bad. They took x-rays of my chest and leg and tell my husband I could go home. I would be sore, subscribed pain medicine and put a wrap around my leg. We get home and I couldn't do anything, felt like I was going to faint if I stood up and couldn't catch my breath. Well, the next morning we get a phone call from the hospital, asking my DH to bring me back. They had another doctor read my x-rays and I had a collapse lung and a broken leg. The 3rd thankful is for the second doctor reading the x-rays and I didn’t take the pain medicine with a collapse lung. Lesson learned, don’t go to this hospital. When we arrived at the hospital the doctor proceeded to inform us they couldn't put me to sleep while in surgery due to the collapse lung. So I got one of those spinal shots and while I was getting prepped they had my leg up in the air just a scrubbing with the purple liquid and I said, “Boy, that must hurt.” I could also hear the drill and asked "If this was a Black and Decker screw gun and were they using metal screws or dry wall", had them all laughing. My 4th thankful is I could still bring a little laughter into the situation.

A week later, after a tube in my chest and 3 screws in my leg, I am back home. A lesson to be learned is speaking up and make sure they understand when you are in pain. They said because I was calm and not acting like I had a collapse lung or broken leg, they just didn’t think my injuries were that bad.

OK, now what I was really getting at was to live your life like there might not be tomorrow. I remember when this happened so clearly, my 5th thankful was for my Mom and Dad that helped us out so much. Lesson here is you never know who might be dropping by or what event comes up in your life that you might not be able to pick up the dirty clothes or wash a few dishes left in the sink before IT arrives, so the spring cleaning is on my list for sure.

I had 3 months I couldn’t put any weight on my leg so my 6th thankful is that I had lost about 50 lbs before the wreak. My DH had to help me with everything. So glad he could lift me, the lesson for this is I better get on a diet or he’ll have to bring in a crane if this should ever happen anytime soon. The feeling you get when your life could be gone in a flash is something you shouldn't forget. I thank God everyday for each day, oh I complain about my leg and I guess the 7th thankful is from my husband, I can always tell him when the fish are biting.
